Today many cars offer a dock connector that links the iPod to the audio system. Through this A2DP adapter, any mobile phone with suitable Bluetooth capabilities can be connected wirelessly instead of the Apple iPod as an audio source. Also enables iPod docking accessories like HiFi stations or iPod speakers to receive audio streams from any Bluetooth source like mobile phones, MP3 players, PDAs or PCs.

Unlike FM transmitters that sometimes have poor sound quality because of the analogue communication, this uses the Bluetooth A2DP profile and streams audio in crystal clear, digital quality to the receiving unit like a car stereo or a sound dock.

If remote control commands like stop, pause, play, next or previous title can be executed from the steering wheel of a car to the iPod, the same functionality is provided through the A2DP adapter to the connected Bluetooth device (AVRCP profile).
